Quantiam Clean Methanol

Methanol is a key molecule to aid decarbonization in  many sectors of the economy as it can be produced from captured Carbon Dioxide emissions and Clean Hydrogen.

In itself, it can be used as a marine fuel, an internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicle fuel or blending additive, or as a hydrogen carrier with few of the drawbacks of Clean Ammonia.  As a low-cost, low-carbon intensity (CI) feedstock it can also be converted into Olefins (Ethylene and Propylene) to make carbon-neutral or carbon-negative plastics, or into higher hydrocarbon renewable fuels which can be used as drop-in replacements for gasoline, diesel, or aviation fuel.

Using Quantiam’s advanced catalysts and process, Clean Methanol can be produced with both low cost and low carbon intensity.  Depending on the type of Clean Hydrogen used, the Quantiam Clean Methanol carbon intensities are projected to be as low as 18g CO2e/MJ – or a reduction of up to 81% compared to conventional gasoline on a Well-to-Wheel basis.

Clean Methanol Markets are Rapidly Expanding

The global clean-fuel markets are expanding rapidly, with notable growth in both land and maritime transport, as well as increasing demand for sustainable aviation fuels (SAFs). 

Quantiam’s Clean Methanol is highly valuable as a fuel and as a blending additive to serve the land and maritime transport sectors.  Additionally, it is the perfect precursor for technologically mature Methanol-to-Fuel pathways to make SAFs and synthetic gasoline with some of the lowest carbon intensities on the planet and at a low cost.

Using our advanced catalyst, we convert H2 and CO2 feedstocks into Methanol in a single step.  This decreases both capital and operating expenses, leading to a Clean Methanol produced at or below (depending on feedstocks chosen) the cost of conventional fossil-methanol production from natural gas without the need for carbon credits or subsidies.

Quantiam’s proprietary, nanostructured catalysts for Clean Methanol production are designed specifically for Carbon Dioxide-only feeds, enabling high yield, high conversion and excellent robustness effectively solving the challenges associated with conversion of Hydrogen and Carbon Dioxide using conventional Methanol catalyst formulations. Further, our catalysts reduce the Hydrogen feedstock needs which alone can account for over 90% of OPEX.
